This past Sunday, the children were learning about a few of God’s promises; how we can trust ALL of God’s promises and how the prophets foretold Jesus’ coming.
For thousands of years, God reassured people with his promise to send a Savior. The Old Testament is full of prophesies about the promised Savior. God promised that the Savior would bring healing and comfort. God promised that the Savior would be a king from David’s family and that he would bring a kingdom of peace and justice. During Advent, we prepare for the coming of the Christ child, and we celebrate the Old Testament prophecies, knowing that each one of them is fulfilled in Jesus.
The children excitedly greeted Isaiah, a prophet of the Lord, who paid them a visit during Children’s Church. Isaiah read scripture from the Old Testament. (Isaiah 9:1a, 2-3a, 6-7).
Referencing Isaiah 9:6-7, which provides promises about what the Savior would be like, the children made ‘Promise Chains’ to decorate the Christmas tree. The branches of the tree are a reminder of God’s promise that the Savior would be from the righteous branch of of King David; the lights on the tree signify that Jesus is the ‘light of the world’.
Praise God for keeping his promise to send a Savior!
